Antelope Valley School District

Chromebook Distribution

Good evening Lopes,

This is your principal, Mr. Stanford, with some new information to share regarding important dates for Chromebook distribution and distance learning start dates.

The tentative Chromebook Distribution Schedule has been changed from Monday to Thursday and Friday of next week (April 2nd-April 3rd) as part of a district campaign to ensure all students have access to technology at home. Our new Chromebook distribution schedule will be sent out through a phone message next week and will also be available next week on our website at antelopevalleyhs.org:

Antelope Valley High School has provided nearly 500 students with free Sprint Hotspot Wifi Access this year in which our supplies have been exhausted. For those who currently do not have internet or WiFi service, Spectrum will offer free access to internet and WiFi for 60-days for new Pre-K to 12 and college students.  In the near future, we will be sending you a survey regarding your technological needs so we may better serve our students through distance learning.

The Antelope Valley High School Staff is currently putting maximum effort into providing a rigorous and comprehensive distance learning experience for your students.  Distance Learning classes will officially be open on Thursday, April 2. Students should log in to each of their classes by  Monday, April 6.

We strive to support our students and families through this difficult time and will continue to reach out to you in an effort to provide meaningful learning along with social and emotional support.

Thank you and take care.

Mr. Stanford

Counselor Message - Distance Learning

Dear Parents and Students,

As you likely know based on media coverage the Coronavirus is widespread, both globally and nationally the situations are rapidly evolving. Our district has made the difficult decision to temporarily close all schools within our district for the health and safety of all students and staff. We understand there will be many questions and concerns on how you will obtain credits needed to meet graduation requirements. Please be assured your counseling team, teachers and administrators are working diligently behind the scenes to address all areas of concern. AVHS’s counseling team is reviewing all the possible impacts of school closure and how it affects you. We will address all concerns with email communications and website postings.

Your AVHS Counseling team will temporarily move to an online platform as a way to provide distance counseling to support our students in various ways. One way your school counselors can assist you is to utilize the AVHS School Counseling Website (https://sites.google.com/avhsd.org/avhs-counseling‚Äč) and schedule an appointment with your counselor for any academic, personal/social/emotional, and college and career concerns. Counselors can make themselves available through Google Hangouts to either live chat or video conference as a way to address your needs. For more general questions, you can always email your counselor.

We know this is a difficult time, and we are working hard to make sure that AVHS continues to support our students in every way we can. I want to assure you that we’re working to make this as seamless a transition as possible. We will continue to communicate with you in the coming days and encourage you to visit this website daily for more information and updates on this transition.

Sincerely,
The AVHS Counseling Department
