YAAMC 2018

Earlier this month, students from AVHS attended the Young African American Male Conference (#yaamc) at Pasadena City College. Our students and teachers received praises from event organizer James Farr for "showing up" and "standing out!" Here is what Farr had to say:

"...They showed up and stood out. From the time they arrived dress in shirts and ties, the entire room took notice. They were respectful and cordial. The guys walked in confident and intentional with an energy to learn and seize the opportunity. The respect and reverence they have for their mentor is hard to find the words. They were prepared, asked questions, introduced themselves to every adult. I saw lives impacted and changed that day. What are the odd's not one, but two students from AVHS would walk away from the experience with new Chromebooks. Continue the great work that is going on in your community and do not hesitate to share that with people outside your community."

A special recognition to Jeff Patterson and Dr. Taylor who are mentors to our students, and passionate about their success.
