The Arts
The Arts
Antelope Valley High School offers programs in Music, Visual Arts, and Media Arts. Students can explore their creativity through a variety of hands-on courses, including Sculpture, Beginning Guitar, and Graphic Design. The program provides a balanced foundation in both traditional fine arts and modern digital media.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program focuses on the mastery of traditional and contemporary artistic techniques, ranging from fine arts and illustration to 3D design. Students dive deep into the elements of art and principles of design, focusing on the development of a professional portfolio. The curriculum emphasizes the "business of art," teaching students how to prepare their work for exhibition, navigate the gallery world, and understand the historical context that informs modern visual communication.
Media Arts
Media Arts bridges the gap between artistic creativity and digital technology, focusing on fields like graphic design, animation, and digital filmmaking. This program equips students with the technical proficiency required to use industry-standard hardware and software to create high-impact content. Students learn the professional production pipeline—from concept and storyboarding to post-production and distribution—ensuring they are ready for the fast-paced demands of the digital media industry.
Music
The Music program in California CTE is designed to bridge the gap between creative talent and the technical demands of the modern music industry. Students focus on a blend of performance excellence and music theory, developing proficiency in vocal or instrumental disciplines while learning to read and compose complex scores. The curriculum emphasizes professional standards for live performance, ensemble collaboration, and the discipline required to succeed in diverse musical environments, from traditional orchestral settings to contemporary commercial stages.
Beyond performance, the program dives deep into Music Technology and Production. Students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), sound engineering, and studio recording techniques. This track also covers the essential business aspects of the industry, including copyright law, distribution, and self-promotion. By the end of the program, students are equipped to navigate the "creative economy" as versatile artists, producers, or technicians ready for a professional studio or live sound environment.
